FAQs For Parents

When do we start playing?

The spring season typically runs from May Long Weekend until the last day of school. The city releases the fields to PGYBA once they deem the fields to be safe to be played on. Once PGYBA receives the field, we organize work bees to get the fields and facilities in shape for the season.

Why was the volunteer fee changed to a field maintenance fee?

The $50.00 field maintenance fee will no longer be refundable.  PGYBA has hired DART to clean up the fields due to lack of volunteers

Do I have to sign up for House League if my player is playing Knights?

YES, these fees are an affiliation fee and cover the cost of Insurance.

When are Try outs:

There are no House League try outs.

Single Season (Knights ) Evaluations March 1-15 and Summer Season May 31-June 2

I want to head coach a team and not pay for my player’s registration fee; how do I do that?

You do have to pay for both the players registration fee, fill out the coach’s registration, submit your criminal record check. At the end of the season, your 50% of your player’s fee will be refunded to your original method of payment.  1 player per coach

What equipment do I need to provide?

Your child will need:

·         Baseball glove

·         Batting helmet with chin strap

·         Athletic cup (jock/jill)

·         Rubber cleats or runners (15U/18U may use metal cleats.)

·         Batting gloves, although optional.

·         You may supply your child’s own bat and catcher’s gear, if you wish, but the league supplies this equipment.

PGYBA provides a team hat and jersey/ shirt.

Can I have Billy and Johnny be on the same team. They are best friends?

PGYBA does not accept special requests for players to be on the same or specific teams. The only exception to this is for players who live in the same household and in the same division.

Due to previous seasons high volume of friend requests, it was decided to only allow player who live in the same household and play in the same division to be on the same team so that we can focus on building balanced and even teams. Team selection is an important part of baseball and skill development and it lets us focus on those priorities.

I want to change teams; how do I do that?

Rosters are finalized. No movements will take place unless we missed siblings in the same division.

How do I know where to go and when to go there?

The schedule provides each field’s location. In brief:

·         Volunteer 1-4 is located on Heather Road between the Hart Community Centre and Heather Park Elementary School.

·         Joe Martin Field is located on Balsum Road at the junction of Crown Drive.

·         Duchess Park Fields are located directly behind Duchess Park Secondary School.

·         Rotary Field, City Field and Girls Fastball Home Field are all located on Del Laverdure Way directly south of the Family Y.

·         Gyro Park is located at the entrance to Exploration Place at 20th Avenue and Gorse Street.

·         Harry Loder Field is located by the Spruce Capital Senior’s Recreation Centre at Rainbow Drive and Stuart Drive.

Who is the coach of my team?

Your team’s coach will contact you via teamsnap. Some teams do not have coaches yet. (Please volunteer to help! We rely on our volunteers to be successful)
